Sumou Japan Restaurant in Bay Shore

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I have been coming here for 20 years and that is saying a lot. Other sushi places are not even close to Sumou. Try it out and you won't regret it!

They offer a great variety of fresh food. I love eating here. Employees are always very friendly, prices are fair and the spot is always well organised.

One of the worst customer service experiences ever. Made a reservation for my grandmothers 81st birthday hoping it would be a great time but it was the complete opposite. Waited over a half hour for our table despite making a reservation and once we were finally seated, we waited another 45 minutes just for the chef to start cooking our hibachi dinner. Not only that, the party that arrived after us and was seated in our section a few seats away, were taken care of the chef cooked their dinner before ours. Maybe it was a busy night for them but overall, a really poor experience and poor planning/management on the staffs behalf.

We went there for dinner on New Years Day. The service and atmosphere were great and the sushi was outstanding. They gave us a gift as we were leaving- a bottle of Saki and a "happy holidays". Highly recommend!

This spot is worth visiting. They serve large portions for convenient prices. Always neat and with fantastic ambience. Will visit here again.

I got so drunk I vomited my meal all over the hibachi grill. The chef then cooked the vomit and served it to everyone. Nah jk had a great time food's amazing hail satan

We had one of their Sushi Chefs come to our home for my daughter's Graduation Party and they were great!!!! Sushi for hours!!! Highly Recommend!!!

Disappointing family affair for our annual St. Patrick’s Day outing. We received minimal attention and were rushed through diner service. We received no dipping sauces, no sake entertainment and little table-side entertainments. Our 8 children were disappointed with the ambiance; although they did appreciate the Japanese soda. Found it awkward that the spread thin staff was inconsistent; entertains some tables. we had a great time last year for St. Patrick’s Day and thought this might become a fun tradition. The kids were saddened and the adults were dumbfounded by a large tab with no thrill and food that lacked passion.

I had my Confirmation and when it was over we went to Sumou and it was a great way to top off what I had just done.

I know that most of us who like sushi are generally sushi snobs, including yours truly. I've been to pretty much every sushi spot in and around the area and believe me when I tell you that this quaint,dark and unassuming locale is by far the best. In my opinion, their rolls are the freshest and tastiest around and, if you feel like hibachi the other half of the restaurant is your new spot. Great deals and awesome French martinis makes this by far my favourite spot for Japanese. Try it, you'll love it too.

Great food and chefs do a good job cooking but was not happy to see the chef squirt water at my son's face instead of in his mouth with the kids saki. The chef was also drinking saki while cooking. Management shouldn't allow stupid behavior like this..

This restaurant has been a consistently high quality restaurant for as long as I can remember. I have never had a bad meal here.

I WOULD GIVE 0 stars if I could. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!!!!! They have no manners and messed up my order multiple times and when asked for a manager they would not go get one. The food was not presentable and gave us the wrong order. ABSOLUTELY HORRID

I am temporarily located in the area for work, googled this place and they have an online ordering system you can use and get points, yummy and decent price lunch roll special, always ready when I get there. Very fast and sushi rolls are really fresh and yummy. Staff is very polite

Hands down this is the best place for sushi! I've traveled most of the country and the better part of the globe and Sumo's takes the cake. In fact I compare every sushi place I go to against Sumo's.The garlic oysters are a must, there tuna is always fresh they are very creative w/ their rolls so don't be afraid to try something new or one of the specials. They also offer a very good hibachi, so if there is a weirdo in your party that doesn't dig sushi they can still order something great.

Highly recommend this place! The staff are friendly and professional. The food is delicious and constant. Small side-note: they have a parking lot so you don't have to worry about parking in this day and age!

Sumou is our favorite sushi restaurant in the Patchogue area. My family and business love Sumou sushi. It's our Friday lunch treat. Great sushi for a reasonable price. Service always with a smile.

I like this venue a lot. theres a very nice air. The meals are superb. the service is effective and the personel is polite. The cost is modest. extremely recommend.

Never had a bad meal here. The food always fresh. Love their Bento Box for lunch. So much to choose from. They also have a section for hibachi that separates the main dining room if watching the chef cook in front of you is your thing. Take out also available. Situated in a small strip plaza on the border of Islip & Bayshore.
